Definition of psoriasis

Psoriasis is a health condition that affects the skin in a way when there are white scaly patches on the top and under is an inflammed red (and often itchy) skin. Officially it is defined as an autoimmune disease however the process which leads to these symptoms and the exact causes on the cellular lever are still not fully understood.

There exist five types of psoriasis: plaque, guttate, pustular, inverse and erythrodermic psoriasis. The most people are affected by plaque psoriasis which usually appears on scalp (scalp psoriasis), elbows, knees, forearms. However severely affected people are covered on the most part of the body.

The symptoms can be suppressed by immunosuppressants – chemotherapy, biologic drugs and corticosteroids, however all those treatments have many other unpleasant effects that can cause other health issues. Therefore many people are trying to cure psoriasis with diet (mostly not eating gluten, refined carbohydrates, sugar, alcohol and junk food) and are successful.
